Girls vs Boys- Turkish

Here is another Turkish Girls vs Boys post. :) This time it's Kenan Doğulu vs Atiye.

Aytie (full name Atiye Deniz) is a popular singer in Turkey. She has a Turkish dad and a Dutch mum and was born in Germany. She also lived in America and Turkey as a child and teen.

Atiye released her debut album Gözyaşlarım in 2007. It had both Turkish and English lyrics and the album title translates as "My Tears". The video for her first single Don't Think was popular on YouTube. Two years later she brought out her second album, which was self titled. A few of her biggest hits are from the Atiye album, the singles Muamma, Salla and Kal (with the Turkish singer Teoman). Atiye has released 3 albums since, Budur (2011), Bring Me Back (2012) and Soygun Var (2013). Some of her other singles are Don't Think, Budur and Bring Me Back. In 2011 she won Best Turkish Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Her latest single is Come To Me. It's her US debut song

This is Ya Habibi which is from Soygun Var and came out in March last year. I've heard some Arabic songs through belly dancing and I know that "Habibi" translates as something like "My darling" or "My love" in Arabic. I think it's similar in Turkish. Of course, belly dancing is also traditional to Turkey and Atiye does some belly dance moves in this video. :) (I've danced to some Turkish songs but mostly Arabic).

Update 26/4/15: I found an English translation of Ya Habibi. The song title is "Yes, My Darling". Here's the link:

Kenan Doğulu has had a long running career. He released his debut album Yaparım Bilirsin (You Know I'll Do It) in 1993 and since then he's brought out 12 albums (studio and remix), including Sımsıkı Sıkı Sıkı, which according to Wikipedia translates as "Tight, Very Tight" (1994), Kenan Doğulu 3 (1996), Ex Aşkım (My Ex-Lover) in 2001, Festival (2006), Kenan Doğulu 7,5 (2007) and his latest (Aşka Türlü Şeyler (2012). His singles include Gençlik Marşı (March of Youth), Çakkıdı, and Kiz Sana Hayran (translated as something like Girl Admire You).

In addition to singing Kenan plays the guitar, flute, drums, piano, saxophone and flute! In 2007 he was Turkey's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Shake It Up Sekirim (Shake It Up Sweetheart) and came 4th. I remember that song. I tend to like Turkey's Eurovision entries. They withdrew from the contest in 2013 but plan to return next year.

Here is Şans Meleğim, which translates as "Chance, My Angel" and came out in 2011.

J Soul Brothers (Japanese boyband)

I don't know that many Japanese boybands. It's funny but I mostly know Korean groups and Japanese solo singers! I know KAT-TUN, Arashi (although they're more of a rock group, I think) and Hey! Say! JUMP but not many more. A friend recently introduced to me the band (or vocal and dance unit) J Soul Brothers, so I thought today I'd do a post about them. And of course it fits into the J-pop and K-pop theme I'm doing this month! This is a good opportunity to find more J-pop boybands too. :)

The J Soul Brothers were originally formed in 1998 but have gone through two line-up changes. The current incarnation- full title Sandaime (Third Generation) J Soul Brothers from EXILE TRIBE* or J Soul Brothers III- was formed in 2010 by HIRO who is the leader of Japanese boyband EXILE (which has an impressive 19 members!) and founding member of the First Generation J Soul Brothers.  It was decided that EXILE and former Nidaimie (Second Generation) J Soul Brothers members NAOTO and …

Dance Videos

It's time for another dance post! I thought I'd feature both modern dance and belly dance today. :)

First of all here are a couple of dance videos by choreographer Rumer Noel. This is one to Everyday by Ariana Grande that was uploaded in January. According to comments on YouTube the man dancing with Rumer at the beginning is called Lucas la Parada.

Dance Moms- Chloe Update

Series/Season 7 of American reality show Dance Moms is currently showing in the UK and I recently heard that one of the original dancers Chloe Lukasiak will be returning for the finale.

Chloe and her mum Christi weren't liked by the dance teacher and studio owner Abby Lee Miller and Christi often clashed with Abby. They left at the end of Series 4. Abby treated Chloe horribly in my opinion, once referring to her as "that girl over there" instead of her name. I always disliked the way Abby punishes the girls if she falls out with their mothers. Also Abby seemed to want to Chloe to fail in competitions, which was weird because she was one of her students representing her!! I think she just wants to be proven right a lot of the time. Chloe was my favourite out of the original girls (Chloe, Maddie, Nia, Mackenzie, Brooke  ans Paige, although Kendall joined quite early on) and I was glad for her when she finally left because she didn't have to put up with being treated li…
