Weekly Music Video

This week's video is Lush Life by Swedish singer Zara Larsson. Her first name is pronounced "Sara" and her career started aged 10 when she won the 2008 series of Talang Sverige (formerly Talang), the Swedish version of Britain's Got Talent. She went on to release a cover of Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On as her debut single.

In 2012 she signed to TEN Music Group and released her debut EP Introducing and second single in early 2013. Uncover was No 1 in Sweden and Norway and also did well in Denmark.  That same year she brought out her second EP Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself and also signed to the American label Epic Records.

In October 2014 Zara released her debut studio album 1 and the following June brought out Lush Life, one of her most successful singles to date. Her other releases include the 2015 EP Uncover (her first release outside of Europe) which contains 6 songs from 1, The Remixes EP and singles Never Forget You with British singer MNEK and Girls Like with British rapper Tinie Tempah. She's set to release her 2nd studio album later this year.

While Lush Life was released over a year ago, I don't remember actually seeing the video on music channels until a few months ago. There are actually 3 videos. The first one I saw was the international version but there's also a Swedish version which was the original. More recently a third video has come out, under the name Alternate version. I've featured both the first international video and the Alternate version. I actually prefer the first one I saw, just like it better for some reason. :)

Here's the international video:

And the Alternate version:

You can also see both the Swedish and international videos side by side here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQXe5egyRiU

There's not really much of a difference, they've just added some special effects and taken out some scenes from the Swedish version.

Update 13/8/16: I just found another video too, the Pop Version (Play with pop). Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYZM1EfMJl4

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences.  The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the

Debut XG Mini Album

Japanese girl group XG have released their 1st mini album. It's called NEW DNA and was released on 27th September. XG (whose name is short for Xtraordinary Girls) made their debut in March last year and have brought out 7 singles so far- Tippy Toes, MASCARA, LEFT RIGHT/SHOOTING STAR double single), GVRL GANG , TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. The first 3 songs (or 4 including the double single) aren't on the mini album. The concept behind NEW DNA is that of being a "new species" free from conventions and limitations .  Although the group is Japanese, their creation was inspired by Korean music and they are based in South Korea. They have released songs in English so far and have been described as a global group and "X-pop". NEW DNA consists of 6 tracks- HESONO, X-GENE, GVRL GANG, TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. It is an R'n'B/pop mini album with influences from other genres, such as K-pop, dance and hip hop. My favourite song is PUPPET SHOW. I al
