K-pop Female Solo Stars

I've mentioned before that for some reason I tend to know more Japanese solo singers rather than groups and more Korean groups rather than solo singers! Well that's changing now, I'm getting to know more Korean singers and Japanese bands.  So today I decided to do a post on K-pop female solo singers. :)

Note: Korean names are written with the surname first.

Hyolyn

Hyolyn (real name Kim Hyo-jung) aka Hyorin is a member of the girl group SISTAR and its sub-unit SISTAR19. She debuted as a solo artist last October with the single Love Like This featuring rapper DOK2. The singles One Step featiring Korean American rapper/singer Jay Park and Paradise followed in November. Her debut EP It's Me was released on 8th November, the same day as Paradise. Hyolyn also featured on American group Far East Movement's single Umbrella, along with Taiwanese music producer Gill Chang.

Here is Paradise. Click the Subtitles/Closed Caption icon on YouTube for English subtitles! :)

Taeyeon

Taeyeon  (full name Kim Tae-yeon is a member of the popular group Girls' Generation. She launched her solo career in October 2015 with the EP I. Both I and the single of the same name featuring rapper Verbal Jint were very successful. In June 2016 she released her second EP Why and her first studio album My Voice came out this February. Tayeon's singles include Starlight featuring Dean, Why, 11:11 and Fine.

This is I Got Love which is from My Voice and was a promotional single for the album. It was released in February.

Seohyun

Seohyun (real name Seo ju-hyun) is also a Girls' Generation member. She is the 3rd GG member to go solo. The other one is Tiffany. (I think if you don't count former member Jessica who left the group in 2014). Seohyun, Taeyeon and Tiffany were also in the sub-unit TTS together.

Seohyun released her first single and mini album Don't Say No in January. Here's Don't Say No.

Johee

Joohee (Lee Joo Hee) was a member of the trio 8Eight. They were a mixed sex trio, which as I said in my post on K.A.R.D isn't very common in K-pop. 8Eight disbanded in 2014.

Johee returned to music in 2015 and released the solo single Happy in 2016. She's just brought out the EP Psychotherapy and the single She's Mine. Another good song to look out for is Imma.

This is She's Mine from Psychotherapy, which according to Simply K-pop, is about the conflict between the emotional side and the voice of reason after being treated badly by a man. I recently bought this on iTunes. Although I like the usual K-pop, this is a different type of song which makes a change. :)

J Soul Brothers (Japanese boyband)

I don't know that many Japanese boybands. It's funny but I mostly know Korean groups and Japanese solo singers! I know KAT-TUN, Arashi (although they're more of a rock group, I think) and Hey! Say! JUMP but not many more. A friend recently introduced to me the band (or vocal and dance unit) J Soul Brothers, so I thought today I'd do a post about them. And of course it fits into the J-pop and K-pop theme I'm doing this month! This is a good opportunity to find more J-pop boybands too. :)

The J Soul Brothers were originally formed in 1998 but have gone through two line-up changes. The current incarnation- full title Sandaime (Third Generation) J Soul Brothers from EXILE TRIBE* or J Soul Brothers III- was formed in 2010 by HIRO who is the leader of Japanese boyband EXILE (which has an impressive 19 members!) and founding member of the First Generation J Soul Brothers.  It was decided that EXILE and former Nidaimie (Second Generation) J Soul Brothers members NAOTO and …

Dance Moms- Chloe Update

Series/Season 7 of American reality show Dance Moms is currently showing in the UK and I recently heard that one of the original dancers Chloe Lukasiak will be returning for the finale.

Chloe and her mum Christi weren't liked by the dance teacher and studio owner Abby Lee Miller and Christi often clashed with Abby. They left at the end of Series 4. Abby treated Chloe horribly in my opinion, once referring to her as "that girl over there" instead of her name. I always disliked the way Abby punishes the girls if she falls out with their mothers. Also Abby seemed to want to Chloe to fail in competitions, which was weird because she was one of her students representing her!! I think she just wants to be proven right a lot of the time. Chloe was my favourite out of the original girls (Chloe, Maddie, Nia, Mackenzie, Brooke  ans Paige, although Kendall joined quite early on) and I was glad for her when she finally left because she didn't have to put up with being treated li…

Christmas Round-up

In October I did a Hallowe'en round-up post. Since today is Christmas Eve I thought it would be cool to do a Christmas round-up. :)

Books

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis (Narnia)

This is the 2nd book in the fantasy children's series The Chronicles of Narnia. Originally published in 1950, it's become a kid's classic. The series is about the magical land of Narnia which is actually meant to be Heaven. It's ruled over by the great lion Aslan (who is like Jesus). But if you're not religious (like me) it's still an entertaining story.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is about siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie who are evacuated from London to the country during the Blitz. They go to stay with Professor Kirke who lives alone apart from his housekeeper Mrs. Macready. While looking round the house the youngest girl Lucy discovers an entrance to Narnia in the back of a wardrobe. She comes out in a snowy…
