4 Incarnations of Sugababes

Sugababes were a British girl group who were active from about 1998 to 2013. They changed their line-up 4 times due to problems within the band. There have been 6 members altogether but only ever 3 at a time. I liked their music from the beginning but my favourite line-up was Keisha, Mutya and Heidi because I thought that their voices blended together well and I liked the music they released during that era, especially when it was more garage/R'n'B sounding.

As of 2013 the group have been on hiatus with no plans for future music. Here are my fave songs from each incarnation. :)

1998-2001

Sugababes started out with Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy in 1998. Mutya and Keisha had been friends since school but Siobhan reportedly didn't get on so well with them. She left in 2001 and later said that she was bullied by Keisha during her time in the group.

This is New Year which was the second single from Sugababes' debut album One Touch (2000). It was released in December 2000.

2001-2005

Siobhan was replaced by Heidi Range. She was part of the group when they were at their most successful; their second album Angels With Dirty Faces was No 2 in the UK charts and the first single Freak Like Me got to No 1. Second single Round Round was also No 1. Their third and fourth albums Three (2003) and Taller in More Ways (2005) were bestsellers too.

Freak Like Me is one of my favourite Sugababes songs. It was released in April 2002 and is a cover of American singer Adina Howard's Freak Like Me. It's also mixed with Gary Numan's group Tubeway Army's song Are Friends Electric? In the video the girls play vampires in a club.

2005-2009

In December 2005 Mutya left the group. She had given birth to her daughter earlier that year and decided not to carry on in the group due to personal reasons. Her replacement was Amelle Berrabah. Sugababes re-recorded their album Taller In More Ways with Amelle and released two more albums in that format, Change (2007) and Catfights and Spotlights (2008).

One of my favourite songs from Taller In More Ways is Follow Me Home. I have the Taller in More Ways album with Mutya on, not Amelle, so I have Mutya's version but it's a good song altogether and I like both versions. :) It was released as a single in June 2006. I can't find the music video on YouTube but here's a video that features the vocals. (I can't get it to post in Blogger so I've linked to it).

Update 12/10/23: I can now post the videos directly on here! :)

2009-2013

In September 2013 Keisha (the last founding group member) left Sugababes. She said it wasn't her choice to leave. Keisha was replaced by Jade Ewen. The latest line-up released one album Sweet 7 in 2010 (it had already been recorded with Keisha and was re-recorded with Jade) and 2 singles, About a Girl and Wear My Kiss. The first single from Sweet 7 was Get Sexy which featured Keisha..

About a Girl was my fave song with Heidi, Amelle and Jade. It was the first single featuring Jade's vocals and came out in November 2009.

In 2013 the three original members reformed as Mutya Keisha Siobhan aka MKS (they were unable to release music under the Sugababes name since it was already in use). They released their debut single (in this format) Flatine in September 2013 and are currently planning an album. 25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences.  The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the

Debut XG Mini Album

Japanese girl group XG have released their 1st mini album. It's called NEW DNA and was released on 27th September. XG (whose name is short for Xtraordinary Girls) made their debut in March last year and have brought out 7 singles so far- Tippy Toes, MASCARA, LEFT RIGHT/SHOOTING STAR double single), GVRL GANG , TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. The first 3 songs (or 4 including the double single) aren't on the mini album. The concept behind NEW DNA is that of being a "new species" free from conventions and limitations .  Although the group is Japanese, their creation was inspired by Korean music and they are based in South Korea. They have released songs in English so far and have been described as a global group and "X-pop". NEW DNA consists of 6 tracks- HESONO, X-GENE, GVRL GANG, TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. It is an R'n'B/pop mini album with influences from other genres, such as K-pop, dance and hip hop. My favourite song is PUPPET SHOW. I al
